I know about HACCP, but what are the hurdles?

The main hurdles in implementation of HACCP are lack of experience and knowledge, lack of essential skills, being unfamiliar with the modern/digital systems and budget limitation.

There are some common hurdles in implementing HACCP including:

  • Lack of experience and required knowledge of food safety, food microbiology, food engineering and processing. This may result in incorrect identification of critical control points for different types of hazards.
  • Lack of essential skills for implementing HACCP such as team working, management and leadership and organisation skills.
  • Being unfamiliar with the modern/digital systems for documentation, recoding and reporting.
  • Budget limitation, HACCP cost should be assessed correctly and considered prior to implementation. It varies depending on the products and production line.
